During its latest General Assembly, EURASCO members elected two new members to the Board of Directors: Slobodan Cvetkovic of the Novi Sad Fair and Isabelle Huyghe of Fedagrim.

During the General Assembly in Zaragoza, Michel Christiaens, representative of Fedagrim (organiser of events such as Agribex, PotatoEurope Belgium, and Demo Groen), announced his resignation as a member of the Eurasco Board and Vice-President. Michel will retire at the end of this year, after an impressive career marked by his dedication and enthusiasm for Eurasco.

The Board and members present expressed their heartfelt thanks for his commitment, expertise, and warm personality. His contribution to the cooperation within Eurasco and the promotion of European agricultural fairs has been invaluable. As a token of appreciation, Michel was honoured with a festive farewell.

At the same time, Eurasco is pleased to welcome Tobias Eichberg of DLG as a new board member. DLG is Europe’s largest organiser of agricultural trade fairs, with leading events such as Agritechnica and EuroTier. With Tobias, Eurasco not only gains an experienced professional but also strengthens its connection to the future of European trade fairs in the agri-food and green sectors.

We warmly thank Michel for his many years of service and extend a sincere welcome to Tobias as he joins the Eurasco Board.

On January 18th, amidst the challenging weather conditions of Birmingham, the 2024 General Assembly of Eurasco was held during the Lamma Show, showcasing the resilience and passion that drive the agricultural sector. The Lamma Show, a cornerstone event for agriculture professionals, provided the perfect backdrop for this pivotal meeting, marking a significant turning point for the future of agricultural events.

Despite the weather-related challenges, a group of ten dedicated members made the journey, demonstrating our community's unwavering commitment to the agricultural sector. This gathering facilitated fruitful discussions and insights about the trends and major directions that will shape the year 2024.

Claus Hermans, representing Agromek, shared valuable views on new indicators capable of convincing marketing professionals of the critical importance of participating in trade fairs.

Samantha Sharp, from Agriconnect, delivered an outstanding presentation on strategies to attract agriculture professionals to physical shows in this new year.

Benoit Delaloy, from the Livestock Summit, provided an in-depth perspective on efficiently organizing press relations at our events.

The General Assembly also served as a moment for collective reflection on the upcoming challenges for the sector. A major decision was made: the creation of a special working group dedicated to developing new performance indicators. These indicators, going beyond the traditional numbers of visitors, exhibitors, and square meters, will be designed to convince marketing managers even more effectively of the benefits of participating in our trade fairs.

This meeting reaffirmed Eurasco's commitment to innovation and collaboration. By working together to develop new tools and strategies, we strengthen our mission to promote agricultural events as essential platforms for the sector. The discussions and decisions made at the 2024 General Assembly mark an important step in our collective quest for a sustainable and prosperous future for agriculture.

Innovations and Strategies for the Future: A Look Back at Eurasco's General Assembly at the Lamma Show 2024

On September 27, 2023, Eurasco organized a virtual meeting that brought together over 25 members to discuss sustainability in the sector of organizing agricultural exhibitions, fairs, and shows in Europe. Two external speakers shared their expertise, creating an interactive atmosphere.

Caroline Godard, a specialist in agronomy and carbon at AAPLUS, highlighted the importance of making agricultural events more sustainable and presented ten key areas for intervention, including water efficiency, waste reduction, and raising awareness.

Beatriz Eastham, from Climeet and Green Event, shared measures aimed at making events more environmentally friendly, such as waste transformation into resources. She also introduced Climeet, a carbon calculator designed for event professionals.

Frédéric François, our Secretary General, illustrated sustainability efforts with the example of the 2023 Batibouw exhibition, emphasizing measures like using recyclable carpets to reduce the event's carbon footprint.

This meeting underscored the industry's commitment to sustainability and encouraged the exchange of ideas to achieve zero waste, reduced carbon emissions, and positive social impact objectives.

This historic event brought together Eurasco members from across Europe. On this occasion, Anne-Marie Quéméner, representative of Space in Rennes, France, was confirmed as the new President of Eurasco. Her vision and leadership are destined to propel the organization's mission to new heights.

Eurasco has embarked on a transformative chapter for almost a year now, marking a significant turning point in its history. In a time when the world of agricultural exhibitions, fairs, and trade shows is undergoing profound changes, Eurasco is steadfastly committed to fostering innovation, information exchange, and encouraging sustainable practices under the leadership of its new Secretary-General, Frédéric François. In October 2022, Eurasco welcomed Frédéric François as its new Secretary-General. With his expertise in event organization, he is ideally qualified to steer Eurasco into a new era.
